Air Conditioner and Heat Pump SEER 2 Initiative
As of January 2023 all air conditioners and furnaces manufactured and installed must meet the new standards set by the Department of Energy (DOE). This new regulation requires a new minimum efficiency rating for all air conditioners and heat pumps.
SEER EFFICIENCY EXPLAINED
A formula is used to determine an AC’s SEER rating or overall efficiency. This formula while complicated, divides an air conditioner’s output by its electric energy input to determine its overall efficiency. The higher the number the higher the efficiency of the AC.
WHAT THIS SEER RATING CHANGE MEANS TO YOU
The new SEER 2 Initiative is more about the testing environment of the manufacturer to emulate the real-world conditions of a working AC or heat pump. It also requires a higher external static pressure during testing. This new process improves the following for you:
- Lower humidity
- Environmentally-friendly operation
- Reduced utility bills
